Root Canal Treatment

Root canal treatment is needed if tooth decay has been left untreated and tooth cavities have expanded to the pulp chambers of teeth. Tooth decay in the inner structure of teeth can lead to tooth extraction. In a root canal procedure, dentists remove the decay and insert a dental filing into the cavity to seal and protect the tooth.

Procedure for root canal treatment

Endodontists, dentists specialising in the treatment of dental problems in the pulp chambers of teeth, first remove tooth decay and infected  tissue surrounding the tooth. Once the tooth is clean and gum disease or bacteria build up has been treated, the dentist hollows out the inner structure of the tooth and removes the nerve and nerve tissue from inside the root canals of teeth. The tooth is then packed with a dental padding (gutta-percha) and sealed with a temporary dental filling.

Patients return for a second appointment when the dentist will replace the temporary filling and attach dental crowns to protect the outer layer of the tooth. Sealing and capping the tooth with gutta-percha and dental crowns stops tooth decay and restores the health of teeth.

Cost of root canal treatment

Dental root canal treatment varies depending on the amount of advanced dental work needed to repair and seal the tooth. The total cost of root canal treatment will include the price of dental crowns to cap the teeth. In Mexico the cost of a dental implant is averagely $200USD.
