Procedure for dental veneers

Dental veneers provide a cosmetic covering to teeth that are stained and discoloured and can be used to correct slight misalignment of teeth to leave you with a perfectly straight, whiter smile.

Dental veneers are made and fitted within two dental appointments.

The first appointment for dental veneers involves you and your dentist using a dental shading chart to select the level of whiteness that blends in with your teeth and choosing the size and shape of the veneers.

Teeth are filed and reshaped to prepare the tooth enamel for the veneers: the surface of the tooth is smoothed and any chips will be evened out. When the prepatory dental work is complete dentists take an impression of your teeth and send this mould to a dental laboratory to custom make the veneers.

The veneers will be returned to the dental clinic between 1-10 days after the tooth mould is made. Patients will return to the dentist who will attach the veneers.

To attach the veneers to teeth, a dental adhesive is applied to the tooth enamel of the natural tooth. The veneers is placed on the adhesive and the dentist will check the shade of the porcelain and the size of the veneers matches the adjacent teeth before bonding the veneer to the tooth using laser-light to secure the dental adhesive.

The complete procedure for attaching dental veneers usually takes one hour.
