Sinus Lifting

For successful dental implants in the upper jaw, there must be sufficient bone mass. Many patients have an upper jawbone that is too thin to support a dental implant and a bone graft is necessary.

However, to insert a bone graft into the upper jaw, dental clinics in Mexico must first perform a sinus lift. Sinuses are air cavities that allow nasal fluid to drain. The maxillary sinuses cavities stretch behind the cheeks to the area above the back molars.

Procedure for Sinus Lifting

The purpose of sinus lifting is to make room in the mouth for extra bone mass to be added to the upper jawbone.

Your dentist must first expose the jawbone by making a small incision in the gum. Once the bone is exposed, the bone is split to create a hinge.

This hinge can then be lifted and pushed into the sinus cavity. As the bone is lifted into the cavity, the sinus membrane is lifted making room for the bone graft underneath. The bone graft is placed inside the sinus cavity and new bone grows to connect the graft to the jawbone.
